Margaret “Missy” Timmins is the Managing Partner of Timmins Consulting, LLC, and one of the most experienced political advisors in Florida. Missy brings decades of Florida lobbying experience, as well as valuable experience from the legislative and agency staff perspectives to her work with clients. Timmins started as an Information Specialist with the Florida Department of Labor and Security, which required working closely with the agency’s legislative team. These experiences sparked a lifelong passion for developing public policy in Florida.
Missy was the chief of staff to Senator Jack Latvala in the Florida Senate from 1995 to 2001, where she learned the Florida legislative system from the ground up – spending seven years learning the budget and bill process. Timmins has worked on a variety of political campaigns at the federal, state, legislative, and local level for over 20 years. At times, she has even temporarily relocated in order to provide campaign strategy or assistance. She continues to advise elected officials on a variety of races for the current election cycle. She has worked in the Florida political process for nearly three decades, as department staff, senate staff, and – for the past twenty years – as a contract lobbyist.
Missy began work as a lobbyist in August 2001, two weeks before September 11th. She started her lobbying career with a small boutique lobbying firm and learned quickly that relationships with clients and legislators are the key to success in the legislative process. Managing expectations of clients and developing impactful messaging are both critical elements to increasing your chance of success at the capitol.
Missy founded her own boutique lobbying firm in 2005 and represents clients from across the state in a variety of policy areas. Through Timmins Consulting, Missy provides lobbying representation and government affairs consulting to a variety of trade associations, publicly traded companies, small businesses, and local governments. Missy specializes in the policy areas of environment and natural resources, local government, appropriations, regulated industries, and education.
Some of her current clients include Tampa Bay Downs, Marine Industries Association of Florida, Universal, Bay District Schools, Martin County, North Florida College, and the Bay County Commission.
In her spare time, Missy is a board member for More Transplants, More Life, where she passionately advocates for increased access to (and participation in) organ donation programs and to improve the organ transplant process and experience for all patients.
